A purported video of the incident from Mangluru surfaced on social media which showed a daughter-in-law brutally beating her 87-year-old father-in-law with a steel walking stick

A shocking case of brutality surfaced in Karnataka wherein a woman beat her father-in-law with a walking stick. A purported video of the incident from Mangluru surfaced on social media which showed a daughter-in-law brutally beating her 87-year-old father-in-law with a steel walking stick. The incident took place on March 9.

The CCTV footage of the incident showed an 87-year-old man, Padmanabha Suvarna, a resident of Mangaluru, being subjected to a barbaric beating by his daughter-in-law, Uma Shankari, in Kulshekar of Mangaluru. Uma is seen wielding a walking stick in the air, repeatedly hitting the elderly man while arguing with him. The elderly man is seen pleading with her not to attack.

Uma then violently pushes Suvarna to the ground who falls to the ground after being hit by the side of a sofa. Uma is then seen going out of the room, returning and raising the stick in a manner to hit the elderly man again but decides against it. She keeps the stick back and leaves the room with the elderly man still on the floor.

The assault left the elderly victim severely injured, who is now receiving treatment for his injuries at a private hospital.

The accused, Uma Shankari, Uma Shankari, employed as an officer with the Karnataka Electricity Board (KEB) at Attavar, was taken into custody based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s daughter.

According to an India Today report, she was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

The victim’s son, who is the husband of the accused, is reported to be working abroad.
