CAA News Live Updates: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravi Shankar Prasad today requested Mamata Banerjee, Tamil Nadu and Kerala to “stop spreading lies” on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He clarified that no one will lose his/her job or citizenship.
Questioning rival parties on their “propaganda”, Prasad said, “Mamata ji‘s political ground is slipping in Bengal which is forcing her give communal color to CAA.”
Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress had planned a roadshow to protest against the CAA in Siliguri on Wednesday. However, the roadshow was canceled later.
Her criticism of the Act comes even as her Barrackpore MP Arjun Singh welcomed the implementation of the CAA. West Bengal also witnessed celebrations hours after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs notified the rules. Members of the Matua community, that migrated to India, first during the Partition and then after the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, played drums and distributed sweets.
